Classic canopy double bed Vivai del Sud Architettura e Alta Decorazione OPIUM
“OPIUM” bed for poolside or internal spaces
This piece has nothing to do with smoky opium dens or sweaty human contact in search of “illumination” or Rimbaud’s “A Season in Hell”.
Nor is it linked to the “The Flowers of Evil” or “Artificial Paradises” by Baudelaire, but rather to Kipling and his abandonment into exotism, organised and ordered even in the jungle, of the colonial period where “pax Britannica” reigned.
Here there was the awareness of decline and therefore the end of the Empire but it always remained disciplined as was the ethics of an expected order.
The four-poster “Opium” bed/chaise-longue was inspired by this unique period in time – afternoon naps and heavy tropical nights; the impressive structure in bamboo, the woven material cover which is perfectly in balance with the base made up of a bamboo border and woven material strips.
The side of the hypothetical headboard and the two doors are in the Persian style in light bamboo and may be pulled up and held in the tester.
The upholstery also plays a vital role: the large and soft cushion which occupies the entire surface of the Opium bed, the light curtains with strong designs criss-cross with other crocheted materials. The entire bed may also be closed with mosquito nets which allow glimpses of mountains of linen and silk cushions in warm colours, emphasising the softness of this unique piece of furniture.
