A Fresnel projector, named for its French physicist inventor, is a plano-convex device using a particular type of lens.
ApplicationsThese projectors are used for both indoor and outdoor stage lighting. Its lens can create a variety of illumination effects including highly nuanced back-lighting.
TechnologiesSuch devices are relatively simple, consisting of a housing containing a mobile mechanism holding the bulb and the reflector. The beam exits through a Fresnel lens. The Fresnel-reflector combination produces a parallel beam of determined size. The beam can be a narrow spotlight or a broad floodlight, depending on how far the bulb is from the lens. The convex side of the lens is made up of a series of concentric rings.
This type of projector produces very soft light, without sharply-defined edges, creating a nuanced ambiance. As with PAR lights, Fresnels can be equipped with shutters to control beam shape.
