TechnologiesThe two main frame categories are fixed and relaxation. Fixed, or standard frames have slats or springs, and are sometimes upholstered. Relaxation frames are motorized to change configuration, enabling the user to lie flat, to sit up, lie semi-recumbent or with elevated feet.
How to chooseThe choice of the bed frame is as important as that of the mattress itself. Comfort level depends on the combination of the two. Bed frames can substantially alter the bed's firmness. A slate bed frame will provide firm support, while a pocket spring model offers suppleness. A new mattress placed atop a worn frame loses some of its advantages.
Test the bed frame together with the mattress so as to precisely determine what degree of firmness or softness is most appropriate. Some models are adapted to those who suffer from rheumatism, allergies or back pains.
