The Designer, The Vision, LUMINARE
Johann Nerlinger is a European architect, interior designer, and lighting designer – and the creator of the lighting objects of LUMINARE.
Since the early 1990s, he has been designing architectural spaces, developing interior concepts, and creating lighting objects and lighting systems for residential environments, retail spaces, hotels, conference centers, and a wide variety of architectural projects.
His work is rooted in an intensive exploration of space, light, and shadow.
It is driven by fundamental questions:
How is architecture experienced?
How does light transform a space?
How is atmosphere created?
How do materials, forms, and light interact with one another?
For Johann Nerlinger, light is far more than illumination.
Light shapes volume, emphasizes geometry, guides perception, and creates emotional spaces.
Architecture is never static — it is perceived, felt, and experienced.
From this philosophy emerge the lighting objects of LUMINARE:
not as mere design products, but as integral elements of the space itself.
They reveal architecture, create atmosphere, and enrich spaces with emotional depth.
Today, Johann Nerlinger increasingly understands his work as a form of artistic expression.
Light becomes an object.
Light becomes art.
Far removed from industrial mass production, the objects of LUMINARE are created as individual, handcrafted pieces — produced with artisanal precision, exceptional materials, and a clear commitment to design excellence.
Every object possesses its own identity.
Its own presence.
Its own relationship with space, architecture, and ambience.
Light itself is constantly changing.
With twilight.
With sunlight.
With shadow.
With transparency, reflection, and the surfaces of materials.
Until it reaches its most powerful expression in the darkness of night.
As the day unfolds, new perspectives, moods, and perceptions continuously emerge.
Surfaces appear in a different light.
Spaces transform their character.
And the observer experiences light and architecture anew, again and again.
For this reason, the lighting objects of LUMINARE are never static.
They evolve continuously through the interaction of light, space, and atmosphere, becoming part of this living process.
This is the philosophy of LUMINARE:
The fusion of architecture, emotion, material, and light into a holistic experience.
LUMINARE stands for light as architecture.
Light as atmosphere.
Light as art.
And light as the emotional experience of an ever-changing space.
