Synthesizers, cocktails, understated cool and of course, somewhere in a closet there are pastel suits and big shoulder pads. That’s how we remember the 80s and that’s what we think of when we hear the name, Avalon. It is in our recent and even ancient history that we have been inspired. Recent history gives us bold visions, bold is after all beautiful and just like the song - another inspiration - this table top is anything but subtle. It is in ancient history that allows us to explore the pacific blue finish. The island of Avalon was also called "Inis witrin" (ie "glass island") abundant with a plant that would fade to blue, giving Celtic warriors the dye to cover their faces before battle. Another striking visualisation, another eccentric piece of inspiration. The base has a wave like form that cuts through the space with elegance and penaché whilst the smoked glass sends you to heady kodachrome shots that only the 80s could conjure. This isn’t a rhapsody of design, it’s an homage to an era where creativity was allowed to explore creating defiant elegance and charm.
