At the same time, it remains a very low, very modern console in mahogany. In that role, it effortlessly anchors large art or a collection. Many classical building have a formal frieze-the decorative center of the entablature at the top-and that idea inspires the Metropolitan. The face has a crisp diamond match with flush custom cast and stippled hardware. Four doors slide laterally. The interior has drawers at the outside and shelves behind the center doors. A plinth base reduces the visual weight while adding a sense of presence.
