These are not only lived in daily life, but are also visible on houses and barns. The owners of the building (Reto & Simone Mock, Ilija & Anela Kuhac) have succeeded in combining tradition and modernity in the construction of their multi-family house in the east of Appenzell. Aesthetic, functional and striking: The well-known “Heuladen Pattern”, which can be seen in Appenzellerland primarily on agricultural buildings, fulfills several purposes. The pattern created by artist Sebastian Fässler on the terrace railings is visual protection, fall protection and design element in one. The filigree and nevertheless very robust balcony railings were laser-cut by Bruag according to the individual form wishes of the artist and the client and painted according to their ideas. Outside, the panels were painted in a shade of blue. The backlit perforations on the banisters in the interior are repeated in a warm reddish-brown tone. “Our new building and in particular the unique railings made to our own specifications give us a lot of pleasure,” says Reto Mock, who was able to realize a unique Appenzeller Bijou not least thanks to the flexible possibilities of Bruag.
