Award-winning university library - Sweden
In the spring of 2014, Dalarna University in Falun inaugurated a new library with 400 workplaces in a glass-enclosed hall. A few months later the library was awarded the title of the world's best university building at an international architectural competition in Singapore. The library has a unique design. It is an arena with a 14m ceiling height, surrounded by seating rows and steps. White bookshelves five metres high cover the walls.
The aim has been to create a library that also serves as a dynamic meeting place. All the fittings have been carefully designed in full harmony. The Cibes A5000 platform lift also blends into its surroundings and becomes a part of the design concept because of the options selected. The elevator is white to fit into the bright environment and one side has a glazed wall through which shelves of books can be seen. The lifting height is 2.5 metres with a half door that opens at the top. The lift is used by staff, students and visitors.
Torbjörn Wiegandt at HMC Construction was the Project Manager of this successful project. He explains why they chose a Cibes A5000.
“Originally the idea was to put in two lifts of another type, but we wanted a more cost effective solution and then our choice fell on the Cibes A5000. We also wanted a lift design that fitted into the environment and a solution that can be trusted. This kind of lift is not used very frequently, but when it does, it must work without any problems. We know from experience that Cibes lifts fulfil this requirement.”
