Le stanze and Le porte are a part of the research in the perceptive ambiguity of internal three-dimensional space. Each of these paintings attempted to provide the observer with some examples of perceptive ambiguity by somehow representing real space within the limits of two dimension: they represent the transition from space to abstraction in relation to the relationship between colors and volumes.Le stanze and Le porte are an interesting reference to Mari’s erly stages of experimentation. They represent both the passage from environments to abstraction, as well as his research with the “color- volume” relationship. The volume of the “environments” in these prints were actually created by the sequence of colored forms.
