The reference to the land of origin and, therefore, to the wonders of the Amalfi Coast and the exclusive peculiarity of its landscapes is a must to represent the artistic heritage of Handmade Terracotta.
The Handmade Terracotta is classical support used by the Ceramica Francesco De Maio as the basis to glaze and to décor still preserved in the fabulous floors of the nobiliary eighteenth-century dwellings, called “Riggiole” tiles.
The Handmade Terracotta is produced with a selection of different kind of clear local clays, which are filtered and worked with water.
The dough of clays is poured into the frames and worked with the hands to realize and to finish the wished shapes with a thickness that starts from 12 to 24mm according to the size.
The produced shape is dried for a period of time that is included from 10 to 40 days according to the size and the humidity of the air. Times of planned cooking vary, according to the size, from 30 to 36 hours to a temperature of 950/1000°.
The Handmade Terracotta so obtained can be placed even rough (with the addition of specific treatments), so they used to do in the fabulous floors of the noble buildings, of the churches and the cloisters of the ‘500, it is realized as the basis to glaze and for the handmade decoration.
The Terracotta is made entirely by hand, and for this reason, it can be made in different shapes, even custom made.
