As specified by the standard, they must be used everywhere where there are publicly accessible larger movements of people (audience) and where, in cases of panic, there may be ambiguity regarding the spatial characteristics of these facilities. They are used e.g. in event spaces, theaters, cinemas, discotheques, school premises and hospitals.
