Description

Product Overview
The AVS701 air and gas velocity sensor is developed and designed for demanding industrial applications. The AVS701 sets a new standard in air and gas velocity measurement and is proven to last up to 20 times longer in harsh environments. Maximum efficiency and process reliability are ensured through highly accurate measurements, simple installation with an integrated sensor positioning, and a process gas library. The optional external pressure sensor compensates for variations in ambient pressure.

Highlights
  • For demanding industrial applications: from pharmaceutical production to process monitoring in additive manufacturing (3D printing)
  • High-end thin-film ceramic sensing element for stable measurement results even under extreme and corrosive conditions
  • Efficiency increases in process costs and quicker setup times by up to 60%

Typical Applications
  • Metal additive manufacturing (3D printer)
  • Monitoring of incoming and outgoing air for HVAC controls
  • Filter monitoring and laminar flow control in cleanrooms and labs
  • Exhausts, fume hoods and glove boxes in pharmaceutical, food processing and semiconductor industries
  • Volumetric flow of supply air for combustion control
  • Air conveying systems
  • Wind tunnels and climate simulators

Key Features
  • Shows up to 3 measurands simultaneously (velocity, temperature, other selectable measurands)
  • Freely selectable display layout and measurands; linear gauges for quick perception
  • Connector for external pressure probe (optional) and realtime pressure compensation
  • IP65 protection rating / NEMA 4X
  • Pressure-tight models available up to max. 10 bar
  • 2 freely scalable analogue outputs (current / voltage)
  • RS485 interface and USB-C service interface (configuration, adjustment, firmware update; short-term power supply via USB)

Advantages & Benefit Details
  • 60% quicker sensor setup: specially developed alignment crimp and included alignment tool for the remote probe enable fast and precise positioning, reducing installation errors and commissioning time.
  • Automatic capturing of the operating flow: the sensor captures operating flow in addition to the standardized flow; integrated temperature measurement and optional external pressure sensor (Sensor Control Port) allow automated dynamic pressure compensation for consistently high accuracy without manual adjustments.
  • Highest measurement accuracy: exceptional accuracy of ±1% of measured value (and ±0.03 m/s in the 0–2 m/s range) ensures maximum process reliability in sensitive applications such as cleanrooms and pharmaceutical production.
  • Reliable long-term operation under corrosive conditions: robust thin-film ceramic sensing element protected by a stainless steel probe head and specialised coating provide strong resistance to moisture and corrosive gases (e.g. hydrogen peroxide, ammonia). In long-term ammonia exposure tests the AVS701 remained functional after >1,000 hours compared to ~440 hours for conventional sensors.
  • Intelligent process gas adjustment: flexible process gas library automatically applies gas-specific corrections (e.g. for CO2, Argon), simplifying parameterisation and saving time when gases change.
  • Flexible communications and configuration: two analogue outputs, RS485 (Modbus RTU), 2 alarm outputs, USB-C service interface for configuration and firmware updates, and short-term USB power for service tasks.

Performance & Durability
The AVS701 is optimised for demanding industrial environments with a measurement range up to 40 m/s and temperature operation from -40 to +140 °C. The specialised coating and stainless steel probe head significantly reduce downtime and lifecycle costs and increase mean time to failure compared to conventional sensors.
