EeStairs worked with multi-disciplinary design practice Hassell and construction services specialists ISG to develop an elegant cantilevered staircase for a global mining and resources company’s London office. The resulting staircase features a discreet structure, clad with timber treads and risers.
The design intent demanded that the staircase had a slim structure when viewed in profile. This brief lead to EeStairs designing and engineering a high performing steel carcass with slender visible edges, warm timber finishes and large glass balustrade panels mounted within a concealed channel section.
The staircase carcass is fabricated from hot rolled mild steel, finished with a hand applied satin polish. This semi translucent tinted finish deepens the natural colour of the steel whilst retaining the character of the material, as expressed through subtle pitting and millscale visible to the discerning observer.
