Yakisugi (焼杉) is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation by charring it with fire. Yaki means to heat with fire, and sugi is cypress. It is also referred to as "Shō Sugi Ban" (焼杉板). The process involves charring the wood, cooling it, cleaning it, and finishing it with natural oil.
The gravitas imparted by the process and finished result (called "yaki sugi") are undeniable, a blackening of the wood that reveals clean, distinct lines and inherent textural beauty.
The YakiSugi model is a signature black TV stand in the JALG collection and portrays a great appreciation for Japanese furniture detailing.
