Ductile iron is used in the construction of mechanical parts for which maximum resistance is required. The production process of this particular alloy requires very rigorous control based on many control and verification steps which already constitutes a valid guarantee of constant quality. Ductile iron manhole covers and drains are designed according to the elastic limit of the material which is reached well before breaking, thus ensuring a wider safety margin.
The EN 124 standard regulates the maximum loads supported by Ductile Iron manhole covers. In the event of an eventual and unlikely failure, they do not break into several parts as happens with Lamellar Iron manhole covers, but only show lesions, ensuring in any case the coverage of the well that would otherwise remain unprotected.
The mechanical characteristics of Ductile Iron make it possible, with equal resistance, to create lighter structures, allowing even for models of considerable size, ease of installation and maintenance.
