This atrium is made of steel beams over a span of about 20m. On the basic structure there is a grid of aluminium profiles made to measure for the glass distribution. The entire roof structure is walkable and equipped with the necessary life lines. Inside, the steel structure is covered with acoustically perforated aluminium finishing plates and lacquered. Behind these finishing plates, fire-resistant protection for the steel as well as soft acoustic material has been applied.
This new building on the site of Tour & Taxis has been put into use by the Flemish Community and is now called 'Herman Teirlinck building'. It is characterized by a large atrium with tall plants in it. There were 2 glass roofs designed as an atrium which were designed as a box in the building. The glass roofs bring together indoor and outdoor and are a meeting place in a large office building.
