Product overviewRootbox is a modular system made from recycled plastic, designed to ensure healthy and long-term tree growth in highly urbanized environments with significant infrastructure constraints. Installed underground, Rootbox creates a cellular matrix filled with uncompacted soil to provide roots with proper aeration, effective irrigation and sufficient space for development while preventing pavement uplift and damage to surrounding urban infrastructure. The system integrates with the built environment, combining structural and hydraulic performance with water storage capacity to support urban hydrology.
Advantages- Protected and controlled root development: preserves uncompacted, well-aerated soil conditions to support healthy, long-term tree growth in dense urban contexts.
- Protection of surfaces and urban infrastructure: guides root growth away from surface layers to prevent uplift and damage to roads, sidewalks, pavements and adjacent infrastructure.
- Advanced stormwater management: 94% void ratio; system can store up to 300 l/m³ of water, improving retention and hydraulic resilience.
- High load-bearing capacity: engineered to withstand significant loads; suitable for vehicular traffic, pedestrian areas, cycle paths and parking facilities.
- Compatibility with multiple surface finishes: provides a stable base for permeable pavements, slabs, concrete and asphalt.
- Full MEP integration: open-module design allows passage of utilities and pipelines up to 25 cm in diameter.
- Design flexibility: modular system adapts to irregular geometries and excavation depths from 0.6 to 1.8 m.
- Fast and intuitive installation: composed of two elements (side panel and top grid); can be installed without additional tools or accessories.
- Environmental sustainability: manufactured entirely from recycled plastic.
- Optimized logistics: each pallet can transport up to 15 m³ of product, simplifying transport and storage.
Solutions / typical applications- Tree-lined avenues and pedestrian areas
- Public squares
- Cycle paths
- Parking areas
Installation instructions- 1. CREATE THE MODULES: connect universal wall panels by sliding side connectors and locking them together; once first level is assembled, set up irrigation, aeration or other infrastructure systems as required.
- 2. INSTALL UPPER ROWS: if required, press modules together; upper edge of wall panels has ridges for secure fit and to block lateral movement.
- 3. INSTALL THE UPPER GRID: after planting and filling with soil, secure the top grid onto the upper modules by hand pressure; cover with specified paving material.
FAQ- Does Rootbox allow the passage of MEP systems? Yes. Rootbox has side openings that accommodate infrastructure pipes up to 25 cm in diameter, enabling integration with MEP systems without interfering with root growth.
- What are the advantages of Rootbox compared to traditional urban tree systems? Quick installation (only 2 recycled plastic components, no tools), high load-bearing capacity that resists compaction over time, and improved tree growth by maintaining uncompacted soil for root spread and establishment.
