Description The Stemlite (1962) was the first total-look lamp, a pioneering typology by American designer Bill Curry that replaced the traditional base-plus-shade form with a single self-contained unit made of interchangeable modules. Curry's debut design, the Stemlite, was named most influential lamp of the year by Industrial Design Magazine in 1965, was used on the set of the original Star Trek TV series, and remained in production until 1977. Remastered by GUBI after almost half a century, the new collection comprises two table lamps, two floor lamps and a pendant in a contemporary yet authentic colour palette. Today's Stemlite retains three of the original heights: two table heights (one originally conceived as a floor lamp) and the original floor lamp height; a second taller floor lamp and a pendant (an inverted version of the original) have been added. A concealed counterweight is integrated into the foot geometry of the upright lamps to meet current stability and safety requirements. Floor and pendant variants with larger globes are also available.
