THE END is an ironie epitaph created by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari to déclaré the “end” of the brand Gufram as well as to suggest a new beginning. For its noir and desecrating look it is the image that Cattelan chose for his autobiography. The funereal look of this sculpture-decor is tempered by the softness of the polyuréthane it is made of: in perfect Gufram tradition, nothing is as it looks. THE END cornes, just like a tombstone, from a process of sculpture and rough-hewing of the single éléments of polyuréthane foam by expert artisans. The finish in "true-fake" marble is realized with Guflac, the particular paint patented by Gufram that makes it possible to make polyuréthane look like leather while maintaining its flexibility and softness; for this reason each tombstone is different from another. To the version of "true-fake" granité - obtained through dripping paint in 4 different colours - one of "true-fake" Carrara Marble with golden writing was added to celebrate the brand's 50th birthday. THE END is the only funeral element which is part of international collections, like at the Deste Foundation and is sold in some of the most exclusive stores and cultural institutions, like the bookshop at MoMA in New York. ABSTRACT Gufram pulls back from the world of design. It déclarés it and turns the page - with a tombstone. Since the time has corne to call it quits because of the many mudslinger that hâve always condemned Gufram's anti-design soûl, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpalo Ferrari celebrate the funeral rites. Thus TOILETPAPER writes Gufram's epitaph, and, as an act of final résistance, créâtes a tombstone that can be used as a seat with a grotesque irony.
