Description

Specification
The Halton CaBeam REC is an active chilled beam designed for silent cabin comfort and precise air treatment in marine passenger and crew cabins. Available for exposed, recessed or integrated installation, the CaBeam REC provides compact, efficient cooling and integrated functions that differentiate it from traditional chilled beams.

Overview
  • Integral recirculation air path via perforated front panel
  • Front panel openable from either side for maintenance and cleaning
  • Front panel removable without special tools
  • Modifiable inlet duct connection: right, left or middle of the supply-air plenum
  • Heat exchanger orientation allows water connections on either side
  • Copper coil pipes (wall thickness 0.9–1.0 mm) to EN 1057:1996; aluminium fins (copper optional); factory pressure-tested heat exchanger; maximum operating pressure 1.0 MPa
  • Supply air duct connection D125 mm

Tailoring
The Halton CaBeam units can be tailored to project-specific integration and requirements. Dimensions, capacities and functionalities can be modified. An advanced digital room temperature control is available to complete the solution.

Features
  • Integral recirculation air path through the perforated front panel
  • Front panel openable from either side for maintenance and cleaning
  • Front panel removable without special tools
  • Modifiable inlet duct connection (right/left/middle)
  • Heat exchanger orientation allows water connections on either side
  • Copper pipes (0.9–1.0 mm wall), aluminium fins (copper optional), factory pressure-tested heat exchanger
  • Maximum operating pressure 1.0 MPa
  • Supply air duct connection D125 mm

Function
Supply air enters the beam plenum and is diffused into the cabin via nozzles and a top supply slot. Nozzle jets induce ambient cabin air, directing it horizontally along the ceiling. Secondary air is drawn through the perforated bottom panel, passes the heat exchanger where it is cooled or heated, then is discharged into the cabin. Cooling capacity is controlled by regulating water flow according to the room temperature controller.

Installation
Easy installation in prefabricated cabins. The compact design and manufacturing method allow modification for project-specific installations (exposed, recessed or integrated).

Design criteria
  • Room design temperature: 22°C / 50% RH
  • Fresh air rate: 50–200 m3/h
  • Nozzle pressure: 100–200 Pa
  • Sensible cooling power: 400–1500 W (depending on coil and water parameters)
  • Heating power: 300–1200 W
  • Noise level: 25–30 dB(A), boost <35 dB(A)
  • Chilled water flow: 0.02–0.10 dm3/s (360 dm3/h)
  • Chilled water inlet temperature: 14–16°C
  • Chilled water outlet temperature: 16–19°C

Dimensions and Weight
Coil length options: 600–2100 mm (examples 900, 1200…)
Length L-5 options: 900, 1200…2400 mm
Example weights:
  • 900 mm long chilled beam ≈ 21.5 kg (with cooling water +0.5 kg)
  • 1200 mm long chilled beam ≈ 26.5 kg (with cooling water +0.8 kg)

Adjustments
Cooling
Recommended cooling water mass flow rate 0.03–0.10 kg/s, producing a temperature rise of 1–3°C in the heat exchanger. To avoid condensation, recommended inlet water temperature is above 14°C.

Heating
Heating can be provided by an integrated electric heater in the CaBeam or by an electric heater in the inlet water pipe. The electric heater includes a capillary thermostat with safety switch and manual reset; control is automated and includes air movement detection and safety relays.

Heating with water (option)
Recommended heating water mass flow 0.01–0.04 kg/s, producing a temperature drop of 5–15°C in the heat exchanger. Maximum recommended inlet water temperature for the heat exchanger: 35–45°C.

Balancing and control of water flow rates
Balance water flow rates with adjustment valves on the outlet side of the cooling and heating loops. Cooling and heating capacity is controlled by regulating water mass flow using ON/OFF or proportional two- or three-way valves; valves can be integrated into the CaBeam.

Adjustment of supply airflow rate
Connect a manometer to the measurement tap and measure static pressure in the chilled beam. Airflow rate is calculated according to the provided formula. Nozzle k-values:
NOZZLE | k (l/s) | k (m3/h)
C | 1.36 | 4.90
D | 2.09 | 7.52
E | 3.33 | 11.99

Condensation prevention
Relative humidity and temperature changes (e.g. balcony door open or long shower use) may cause condensation on the coil. CaBeam can be equipped with a condensation sensor in the cooling water pipe that closes the cooling water valve automatically if condensation occurs and reopens it when risk subsides. Alternatively, an electric tempering heater in the inlet water pipe can keep coil surfaces above the dew point. The sensor or tempering heater can be activated by a door switch to block cooling while the door remains open.

Servicing
Service access: 1. Front panel; 2. Supply air connection; 3. Heat exchanger; 4. Female supply air connection; 5. Pipe connections; 6. Duct cover. Front panel designed for easy access and cleaning without special tools.
