Description

Product overview
Lime Prime is a waterborne primer designed for porous and less cohesive substrates prior to the application of waterborne dispersion coatings. It consolidates dusty and friable surfaces, improves adhesion of subsequent coatings and reduces the risk of surface defects. Typical substrates include older dusty renders and porous materials such as concrete, brick, calcium silicate stone and lime plaster. In retrofit work (for example when a vapour control layer has been omitted) Lime Prime provides a stabilised base so that liquid airtight membranes like Passive Purple or Airtight White can bond reliably, helping restore airtightness to building-control standards.

Application
  • Apply Lime Prime by low-pressure or airless spray; roller application may be possible in some contexts
  • Typical single layer: approximately 100 g/m2, depending on substrate porosity
  • Shake before use
  • Remove dust and all friable material from the substrate prior to application
  • Substrate preparation is required; the primer does not replace mechanical preparation
  • Allow to dry before applying waterborne dispersion coatings
  • Do not dilute
  • Apply only on porous substrates
  • Minimum application temperature: +5° C; recommended range: +5° C to +35° C
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight
  • Clean tools with water

Typical uses
  • Consolidation of older dusty lime-based renders and plasters
  • Stabilisation of water-sensitive substrates such as gypsum board and gypsum plaster
