Short descriptionStainless steel grease separators are equipment that facilitate the separation and removal of vegetable and animal fats generated in a kitchen, preventing them from entering the downstream drainage system. They separate water from grease by density differences to avoid blockages and foul odours. Stainless steel is used to minimise contamination risks.
Detailed descriptionGrease separators are units designed to provide grit removal, separation and fat storage functions as a pre-treatment for effluents before discharge into sewerage networks. A grease separator is characterised by having two compartments:
- The grit trap: allows sedimentation of sludge and solid matter; can be delimited by a baffle or an inclined base.
- The separation chamber (Separator): designed to retain fats and oils, which have a lower density than water.
They are suitable for new-build installations and for placement/connection under a sink in renovations. It is possible to combine INZA ISGI grease separators with an enzymatic InzaBio solution to enhance grease digestion and prevent clogging and odour problems; there is an option to connect a dosing pump for automatic dosing.
Installation and commissioningPipework connected to grease separators must be adequately ventilated. The discharge pipe to the grease separator must be fitted with a ventilation stack. Commissioning operations: fill with clear water until it overflows through the outlet pipe (also performed after each emptying); check lid seals to prevent odour nuisance.
MaintenanceGrease separators must be inspected, emptied and cleaned regularly. Frequency depends on grease and sludge storage capacity and operational experience. Unless otherwise specified, separators should be emptied, cleaned and refilled with clean water at least once a month (every two weeks is preferable), as specified by standard UNE-EN 1825-2. During maintenance: clean internal components (baffles, partitions), check coating and interior, check and clean level probe according to its maintenance manual. A grease detection alarm option is available to alert maintenance when maximum grease retention is reached.
