The Orchid plug consists of a special substrate with a number of special features to create the ideal ‘pot’ environment for the plant. Experience has taught us that almost every plant variety has a specific requirement in terms of substrate/plug combination. The Orchid Plug is no different in this regard, it is airy, even right after irrigation. It is of utmost importance that excess water not remains in the plug or tray for too long and through a combination of the Preforma plug and special designed tray, the problem of potential excess water is avoided. The Jiffy Plug absorbs water gradually, as a result the plant grows at a steady pace and will be more compact. The water buffer of the Jiffy Plug has enough capacity to enable watering to take place once every 4 days. To be successful with the Orchid Plug, the choice of tray is of utmost importance. Orchid media should never be allowed to dry out irreversibly, because unevenness in terms of moisture in the tray would some plants to grow slightly quicker than others and the large leaf of the quickest growing plants can form an umbrella to the detriment of the smaller plants underneath these leaves. Plugs that are too dry must have the ability to easily absorb water at the next irrigation. The Jiffy Orchid plug will never dry irreversible, avoiding unevenness in the tray as the Phalaenopsis plants will grow compact making the phenomenon of leaves growing over each other more seldom, resulting in a more uniform crop.
