Description

Takayama, an Edo-era mountain town in Japan’s mountainous Gifu Prefecture, is famed for Ukai fishing. The Fishermen employ a 1300-year-old technique using trained Cormorant birds. The birds swoop in and catch fish using the light of burning baskets hung on rods over the edge of boats to see their prey. The arc of the Takayama floor lamp by Yabu Pushelberg bears an uncanny resemblance to the fisherman’s friend. Textured black or white metal paired with a burgundy or yellow woven cord and Sahara-Noir or Invistible White marble base with flashes of amber. The dimmable LED disc that drops from the centre stem and up lights the inner shade in a diffused warm light way makes it a feature in its’ own right.
