Greek and Roman mosaics of natural stones date at the fourth century BC. The stone tesserae were used mainly in floor mosaics since they were resistant to wear. The most used are the limestones (Piasentina stone is a sedimentary rock limestone) because they are easier to work and because of their many shades of color. Mosaics are pre-assembled on a mesh backing with a dimension of 300x300mm, with pieces ranging in size from 25x25mm to 30x100mm. The gluing on a mesh backing facilitate the installation, and allows to cut it as needed to adapt to any design.
