Melsetter showcases the incredible talents of May Morris, daughter of William and one of the most influential figures in English embroidery. Displaying flawless techniques and a distinctive style, May’s designs earned a place in our hearts, deserving to be recognised and enjoyed. Featuring seven prints & seven embroideries, Melsetter shares May’s commitment to her creative vision and to her father’s ideals, resulting in a collection of original and reimagined designs, each with their own historical provenance. This beautifully printed design of birds and flowerheads trailing a central fruit tree was inspired by a version of the Kelmscott Manor bed hangings crafted for Melsetter House in Scotland. Now translated into a print this new design by Morris & Co. has been painted to create a fresco effect that represents the colourways of the Orkney landscape.
