Description

This eight-sided lantern is a reinterpretation of the domestic models that were very popular in the mid-18th century. Indeed, reserved for a utilitarian use under Louis XIV, the lanterns gradually take their place within the luxurious interiors around 1750. A similar model, with eight sides, dating from 1750 can be found at the Château de Fontainebleau, as well as at the Petit Trianon, with a lantern decorated with porcelain flowers for Marie Antoinette. Our model nevertheless stands out from its illustrious predecessors by the simplicity of its lines. Within an octagonal bronze structure, covered with rococo ornaments, is nestled a chandelier with a central shaft and a six-light exposed stem. The geometrical simplicity of the arms is underlined by the central shaft and the cage, more ornate, offering a great balance in the composition of the whole. Light arms: 6 Dimensions: D 60 cm / D 23.6″
