OverviewPilkington SaniTise™ is an inline-coated glass with a transparent photocatalytic TiO2 coating that provides antimicrobial properties and demonstrated activity against enveloped viruses when exposed to UV. The coating maintains photocatalytic activity for up to 2 hours after UV exposure in tests, helping to reduce the risk of cross-contamination on glazed surfaces.
How it worksThe TiO2-based coating is deposited directly onto the glass during manufacture. When exposed to UV radiation from daylight or UV disinfection devices, the coating is activated and reacts with water vapour in air to produce reactive oxygen species that break down organic contaminants. UV treatment of the coated surface increases disinfection effectiveness and can, in some cases, double the efficacy compared with uncoated glass.
Features & Benefits- Transparent photocatalytic coating based on titanium dioxide (TiO2) suitable for many architectural glazing applications.
- Resistant to corrosion, mechanical stress and common chemicals.
- Activatable by natural daylight or artificial UV sources; rapidly responsive to 254 nm UV commonly used in disinfection systems.
- Fast activation: typically 5–10 minutes of UV exposure to reach full activity.
- Can increase or double the effectiveness of UV disinfection processes on glass surfaces.
- Retains photocatalytic activity for up to 2 hours after activation, even in the absence of light.
- When activated, the coating is oleophobic (reduces fingerprints) and easier to clean than standard glass.
- Compatible with toughening, lamination, bending and incorporation into insulating glass units (IGUs).
ApplicationsExterior applications:
- Glass facades
- Windows and doors
- External partitions
Interior applications:
- Wall cladding
- Glass screens, barriers and partitions
- Tabletops and counters
- Splashbacks and furniture
- Freezer and refrigerator glazing
- Cover glass for touchscreens and displays
