Description

Overview
Marble flaming is a thermal surface treatment that exposes the stone to high-temperature flames to create a rough, irregular, light-reactive texture. The process produces controlled micro-detachments of mineral crystals, delivering a non-slip finish suitable for exterior and water-exposed environments. Flaming can be applied to marble, travertine, granite and selected natural stones.

How it is obtained
At Pistore Marmi flaming is performed by directing intense flames (propane or oxyacetylene) over the stone surface to rapidly heat and expand mineral crystals. Immediate water quenching induces thermal shock that detaches minute flakes and produces the textured effect. Equipment ranges from portable torches to automatic flaming systems for uniform treatment of large slabs. Flame speed, angle and distance are calibrated to the stone type and desired appearance. Brushing is often applied after flaming to moderate surface asperities and obtain a combined flamed-and-brushed finish.

Applications and uses
  • Exterior paving and façades exposed to weathering
  • Wet zones: steps, fountains, pool copings, shower trays
  • Selected interior uses with modern or rustic design (brushing recommended for indoor installations)
  • Compatible materials: marble, travertine, granite and selected natural stones
