Description

Groundwater as energy source - a convenient possibility to generate renewable energy Water is a medium with a good storage capability, even temperature levels and an ideal regeneration. Three strong reasons to use it as natural heat source. Compared to air and earth, water is the most effictive heat source for a heat pump. An important prerequiste is that enough water with good quality is available. Due to high and constant temperatures of the groundwater between 8 °C and 12 °C all over the year, the heat pump starts its function at a higher temperature level compared to brine- or air usage. For the application Roth brine/water heat pumps TerraCompact® Ex are used. To operate them as water/water heat pumps, an external plate heat exchanger to separate the brine and the water system. These high-quality stainless steel heat exchangers are available in the Roth product range. Water is heat, heat is energy, energy is water This cycle is supported by the ThermoTerra water/water heat pump. The groundwater is used as an energy source via a well system consisting of pumping and absorption wells. This variant of heat pump technology is a very favourable option for regenerative energy generation for heating and hot water supply in buildings. A submersible pump removes the groundwater from the well and transports it to the heat exchanger of the heat pump. Energy is extracted from the water there. Depending on its design, it cools down by up to four Kelvin, but its composition is not changed. The water is then fed back to the same groundwater vein via a well about 10 to 15 metres away.
