OverviewIsland is a modular bench system designed for intermediate and high-traffic communal areas. It provides adaptable seating that accommodates sitting, perching or lounging while defining circulation and focal points within open-plan environments.
Maximizing SpaceIsland reclaims underused zones by integrating freestanding benches that preserve sightlines and guide natural movement. The low-profile layout optimizes adjacent layouts and supports collaborative use of transitional spaces.
ModularityThe system comprises long modular units on a steel frame with CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) panels and optional upholstered cushions. Available in single or double depth and in continuing units, Island is scalable and configurable with a limited palette of finishes, textiles and accessories. External or internal partitions can function as backrests; tables in several sizes and integrated charging modules add functionality. Units are designed for easy dismantling for cleaning and maintenance, suitable for busy environments and built with durable, sustainable materials.
Design InspirationDesigned by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Island encourages informal interactions, impromptu meetings and short pauses — a flexible seating solution for contemporary communal spaces.
