The CWI container irrigation insert is a self-watering system designed to be dropped into most cylindrical and slightly tapered decorative pots. For over 30 years Tournesol’s proven vacuum-sensor watering system has precisely controlled moisture levels in the soil, watering the plant when the soil starts to dry. The oversize reservoir allows for refill intervals up to four times longer than typical hand watering (up to 2-4 weeks for interior plants, 1-2 weeks for exterior). This moisture control, when combined with sub-irrigation (watering from the bottom) makes the CWI the most water-efficient of all irrigation for pots & planters. The proprietary moisture sensor controls the water released into the soil allowing for the largest water reservoir and the longest interval between watering. For more information, please see individual product detail sheets. The key to the system – A micro-porous sensor tube acts as a simple valve. It allows air to pass when the soil is dry, closes when soil is moist. Reservoir is filled through a hole at the top – the amount of water is dependent on the size of the insert. Once full, the reservoir is closed with a rubber stopper, which creates an airtight seal. When the soil is moist (the plant has water), the sensor is closed and a vacuum is created above the water, preventing it from flowing.
