COR

Who we are

For more than 60 years, a little red heart has symbolised seating furniture which stands quite apart from the rest. But what makes this heart beat? The address is Nonenstraße 12, not far from Rheda-Wiedenbrück railway station and therefore right in the “Silicon Valley” of the German furniture industry. This is where the heart of COR beats. This is where, for the past 62 years, COR has made upholstered furniture which is progressive and has won dozens of design awards, yet consistently remains conservative when it comes to longevity and manufacturing quality. “Quality in its pure form” was the credo of Leo Lübke Senior and his partner, Prince Bentheim-Tecklenburg, when they began manufacturing upholstered furniture in 1954. A name for the company was quickly found: COR, the Latin word for heart. This was to reflect the three hearts adorning the co-founder’s royal coat of arms.Ten years following the foundation of the company, an ingenious COR sales representative by the name of Friedrich Wilhelm Möller designed a piece of furniture which was to be as flexible as a box of bricks, as adaptable as a chameleon and hence fairly soon a bestseller. Long before trend researchers spoke of “cocooning”, people were already relaxing on Conseta. To date, more than 820,000 Conseta elements have been sent all over the world from Rheda-Wiedenbrück. No other COR furniture has been such a longseller as Conseta, but many have found design awards and recognition, delighted customers and, not infre-quently, imitators. Today, the red COR heart stands for an internationally recognised design brand and a company which has, in essence, remained true to its heart. COR furniture is still manufactured exclusively in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. And COR is still a family run company (and has been managed by the founder’s grandson, Leo Lübke, since 1995). In other words, long lasting upholstered furniture is still a matter of the heart for COR.

Since the end of November 2015, COR has been running the property at Hauptstraße 74 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück independently. It originally opened as the "COR und interlübke Haus" in 2008. The "COR Haus" with its innovative utilisation concept houses apart from the COR showroom also a bistro, a conference and training area, a trade exhibition centre for the contract sector and the COR COLLECTION, an exhibition of the model history, embodied by significant seating and upholstered furniture from 1954 onwards. Its size (5000 sqm) and design as a convivial centre make it an internationally unique brand showroom.

Our values

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS

COR is the Latin word for heart. The three hearts in the family coat of arms of the aristocratic co-founder were the inspiration for our name – a lucky coincidence because we have realised over the years just how much the heart has to do with COR, apart from the name. Furnishing is a matter close to the heart, at once emotional and subjective. And that is not only the case because tastes vary and therefore all kinds of furniture styles exist, but also because furniture is an expression of each person’s individuality.

Since 1954 we have been building furniture which lends expression to this individuality. With designer pieces which are progressive in their design and now adorn rooms all over the world. At the same time, they are absolutely conservative when it comes to their quality and longevity. COR is still a family business which is managed today by Leo Lübke, the grand-son of the company founder. We continue to manufacture our furniture in our home town in East-Westphalia and – with the exception of a few supplied components – completely in-house. We buy our raw materials exclusively from suppliers who share our manufacturing philosophy: saw mills from the neighbouring Weserbergland, for example; tanneries that still source their materials from organic farms and fabric enthusiasts such as the southern German textile company whose fabrics also cover the seats of many exclusive airlines.

INNER VALUES - You can hardly see them at first glance. But when you take a second, third and umpteenth look, you feel them, value them and enjoy them profoundly: the inner values that we incorporate into every piece of furniture we make.
