The Idea, the Concept, the Success – How was a company like Spartherm, now a leading manufacturer of heating technology, founded?

In the early 1980s, company founder Gerhard Manfred Rokossa realized his dream of an open fireplace made from standard bricks. To prevent sparks from flying out, he developed a protective device. This is how the concept of a closed fireplace with a glass door came into being. The enclosed fireplace design, conceived by Gerhard Manfred Rokossa, caught the eye of a local fireplace specialist, for whom the Spartherm founder refined his initial concept into a sheet-metal chamber with a fireclay lining and a pivoting glass door. When Gerhard Manfred Rokossa finally produced a sturdy steel body, demand continued to rise. The first highly sought-after glass-fronted fireplace, the “Speedy K,” served as the springboard to independence for Gerhard Manfred Rokossa.

At its historic site in Melle, which now spans over 22,500 m², SPARTHERM combines cutting-edge industrial technologies (CAD, 3D modeling, CNC production) with artisanal craftsmanship. Every product receives meticulous attention: cutting, polishing, galvanizing, enameling… right through to custom finishes tailored to customer requirements.
