SuperLite I-XL is a patented breakthrough, monolithic technology that reduces the transfer of radiant heat by reflecting heat back towards the fire source. It minimizes the threat of scorching heat which can limit the safe egress of occupants and can cause the fire to spread to adjacent areas. SuperLite I-XL 45/60, the first and only product of its kind to be introduced in the USA, was developed by SAFTI FIRST in 1993 and has been installed in locations throughout the USA Authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) across the country have approved this non-hose stream tested product because of its ability to reflect radiant heat and stay in the opening for over one hour, allowing for safe egress of occupants. Most AHJs recognize that the hose stream test was designed for structural building integrity and not as a thermal stress test for fire-rated glazing. Sprinkler activation does not compromise the performance of SuperLite I-XL.
|
|
|
SuperLite I is the first wireless, monolithic, safety and fire-rated glazing manufactured in the USA, offering excellent clarity with colorless and distortion-free optics. SuperLite I was developed and priced to replace existing traditional wired glass installations, now recognized by international code bodies as unsafe. SuperLite I remains the choice for use in construction where high impact safety and 20 minute fire ratings are required.
|
|
SuperLite I-XL patented technology now affords fire-rated products to have energy performance similar to all insulated units. SuperLite I-XL IGU provides the highest energy efficiency available in fire protective products as well as radiant heat protection which is not provided by most 45 or 60 minute fire protective exterior products.
The technology of SuperLite I-XL IGU as compared to ceramics blocks up to 90% of the dangerous radiant heat generated by a nearby fire. This added protection stops the fire from jumping to adjacent properties while maintaining its integrity. The superior clarity of SuperLite I-XL IGU, when compared to ceramics amber tint & ‘orange peel’ effect, provides optimal vision. While SuperLite I-XL IGU provides additional benefits and greater clarity than ceramics, it is less than half the price.

SuperLite II-XL 45 is a fire resistive, technically advanced glazing product that blocks radiant heat transfer to meet ASTM E119 requirements. SAFTI FIRST was the first to provide this new technology to the USA in 1982. SuperLite II-XL products have been tested to the stringent wall standard and therefore are considered a “transparent wall.” Fire resistive glazing allows for greater design flexibility while other fire protective glazing products, such as ceramics, are limited by code to interior applications of 45 minutes or less and to 25% of the wall area.

SuperLite I-W is the first patented wired glass product to meet the highest federal impact safety standard, Consumer Product Safety Commision Cat. II, which requires withstanding 400 ft. lbs. of impact, and is perfect for use in door and sidelite applications where impact safety is required or a concern. Standard wired glass lost its exemption from safety requirements due to the many injuries caused by its use in K-12 schools. SuperLite I-W was developed by SAFTI FIRST™ to provide an inexpensive replacement for non-safety traditional wired glass.

NARIMA™ - The living glass
This dichroic color effect glass from SCHOTT produces dazzling variable color effects with spectacular depth effects depending on the position, reflection and transmittance.
Extremely thin layers are applied to the glass using the SOL-GEL dipping process. The coated glass subsequently consists of multiple optical interference layers that account for the various intentional color effects.
The predominantly oxidic layers are hard and highly resistant to both scratches and chemicals.
A combination of highly refractive and low-refractive layers results in a rainbow effect. Different colors result depending on incident solar radiation, the viewing angle and the background.

LightPoints
Light, Innovation, Future
LightPoints offer the unique ability to allow light diodes (LEDs) to float freely inside glass and glow.
LightPoints create the perfect setting for trade fairs and exhibitions or enable shops to glow. Furthermore, they allow for unique product presentations and set individual accents with furniture and interior design. Individual sized modules and flexible placement of the LEDs and invisible wiring make it possible for LightPoints products to fit in with any design and accommodate basically any size area, either indoors or outside.
SCHOTT PowerControl is equipped with LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) and affixed to a cover glass to form PVB (polyvinyl butyral) laminated safety glass. The power (low-voltage direct current) is supplied via almost invisible circuit boards. Various colors and quantities of the LED LightPoints™ can be put to use. The glass units are also available in different sizes. The PVB laminated glass satisfies the legislative requirements with respect to fall protection glazing and fulfills EN 12 600.
Conductive PVB laminated glass can also be used to supply external devices with power. Because the base glass pane that provides the electrical contact does not require any holes, it can also be put to use effectively outdoors. This technology can be used for a broad spectrum of applications. Now, even the handles of doors made entirely of glass can be illuminated and light sources already in use can be replaced without difficulty.

Guardian Clear Float Glass is manufactured using the latest advances in glass making technology. An extending number of float glass manufacturing facilities are strategically located to meet the needs of the European architectural glass market with quick and reliable service.
During the Float Glass manufacturing process, molten glass, at approximately 1100°C, is poured continuously from a furnace onto a large bath of molten tin. It then floats on the tin, spreading and seeking a controlled level surface. In the controlled production process, the molten glass is allowed to spread to a width of 300 to 360 cm, depending on the glass thickness being produced. The thickness is controlled by the speed at which the slowly solidifying glass ribbon is drawn through the tin bath. After about 120 m of travel through the cooling Lehr, it emerges as a continuous ribbon of glass at merely room temperature. The product is perfectly flat and has virtually parallel surfaces. Automatic cutters are used to trim the edges and to cut across the width of the moving glass ribbon. This creates sizes which can be shipped or handled for further processing

Glasses which have been heat-treated to increase their resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses.
The glass is heated to more than 600 °C and then gradually cooled.
Heat-strengthened glass is mainly used to prevent breakage caused by thermal stresses. It is not considered a safety glass. When broken, this type of glass shatters into large pieces that remain in the frame.

Ordinary float glass is one of the most durable building materials. The durability of float glass under normal conditions of exposure is excellent, but its thermal resistance and mechanical strength properties are limited. Where added resistance to wind load and thermal stress is required, Float Glass might need to be heat treated in order to increase its strength.
The heat-treatment process of ordinary Float Glass consists in heating the glass beyond its softening point (over 600°C) and then cooling it down rapidly. This cooling freezes the outer surfaces in their dilated mode while allowing the inner material to retract as temperature drops, thus creating compression strength on the outer layers and tension in the inner layer. Compression strengths in tempered glass are higher than in heat strengthened glass. At Guardian heat treatment is performed in horizontal furnaces, ensuring good surface properties with tight tolerances. However, the treatment process causes some optical distortion of the glass surface which is often referred to as roller-wave and warp. Such distortion is inherent to the process and can not be considered as a defect, assumed it ranges within the tolerance levels as laid down in the applicable standards.
