Overview
The Solution for Unwanted Noise
Insulating building interiors against noise has now become a major design criterion, due to the rapid increase in road and air traffic and the development of the urban motorways.
These and other sources of noise such as railways, discos and neighbours can cause people to experience inconvenience, annoyance, stress and even diagnosable illness. Glazing and windows can play an important part in reducing this noise. It can also provide privacy in applications such as offices, lecture theatres or hospitals.
Benefits
Suitable for internal and external applications.
Can be single glazed or incorporated in an Insulating Glass Unit such as Pilkington Insulight Phon for increased sound insulation.
Provides a range of noise control levels.
Can be combined with other products in the Pilkington range to achieve other benefits.
Safety glass to meet all the impact safety requirements of BS EN 12600.
Improves the living and working environment.
Available in clear or decorative finishes.
Available in five standard thicknesses.
Bespoke products can be designed to individual requirements.
A thin and lightweight solution to noise problems.

Neopariés® is a unique glass building material, made by a highly sophisticated and specialized technique of crystallizing glass. The many performance attributes of Neopariés make it an ideal alternative to stone for interior and exterior walls, as well as interior floors, counters and table tops.
With a marble-like appearance, Neopariés is available in large flat or curved panels. As it is dramatically stronger than marble or granite it may be used in thinner and lighter configurations. Unlike natural stone or granite, Neopariés is nearly graffiti proof - greatly reducing maintenance problems and costs. The extremely smooth surface yields zero water absorption and nearly eliminates damage that can be caused by by acids or alkalis. Neopariés is characterized by an extremely high sheen. This reflectivity of light frequently allows the reduction of artificial lighting, thus saving energy costs.

Pilkington Activ Neutral is the attractive neutral coloured glass that combines dual action, self-cleaning properties with solar control performance for a cooler internal environment. Specially designed for conservatories and large glazed areas, Pilkington Activ Neutral is a revolutionary new glass that is perfect for use in both the roof and verticals. It uses daylight and rainwater to breakdown and wash away organic dirt from exterior surfaces, making it ideal for hard to clean areas and giving you a year round clearer view of your garden when used in conservatory verticals. Its unique solar control coating also helps keep internal temperatures cool whilst still maintaining excellent, neutral light transmittance. For optimum self-cleaning and thermal performance, combine Pilkington Activ Neutral with Pilkington K Glass or Pilkington Optitherm SN in an Insulating Glass Unit.
|
|
Overview
The unique dual-action of the Pilkington Activ coating uses the forces of nature to help keep the glass free from organic dirt, giving you not only the practical benefit of less cleaning, but also clearer, better-looking windows.
Benefits
Saves you time and money and is safer than cleaning your own windows.
Can be used in almost any external domestic application.
Unique coating is not worn away or rubbed off - lasts the lifetime of the glazing itself.
Easily cleaned during dry spells by hosing down or wiping with a soft cloth and warm soapy water.
Can be used in conjunction with other Pilkington glass products to provide increased energy efficiency and save on heating bills.

Overview
For applications where the degree of Ultra Violet (UV) protection provided by Pilkington Optilam is insufficient Pilkington Anti-Fade may be used. Offering the ultimate in UV screening, this is a range of laminated glass products maunfactured using special interlayers that dramatically reduce UV transmission.
Pilkington Anti-Fade should be used where UV light would be a threat to materials, equipment or even people. It is ideal for museum display cases, windows or roofs of art galleries and can allow natural light to enter areas where fine art is being restored.
It is important to note that damage to items behind glass can also be caused by visible and infra red radiation (light and heat) from the sun and some artificial lighting inside a building emitting UV radiation.

Royal Blue 40 comes in three colors - royal blue, blue gray and aquamarine - while blocking heat gain.
|
|
Look at standard clear glass for a moment, and you'll see that it isn't really clear - there's a slight greenish hue.
But SunGuard UltraWhite is virtually free of color, making it perfect for curtain walls, atriums, skylights, entranceways and storefronts - in other words, anywhere you want an even more striking neutral color.

Glasses which have been heat-treated to increase their resistance to mechanical and thermal stresses.
The glass is heated to more than 600 °C and then gradually cooled.
Heat-strengthened glass is mainly used to prevent breakage caused by thermal stresses. It is not considered a safety glass. When broken, this type of glass shatters into large pieces that remain in the frame.

Overview
Pilkington T glass is the name for Pilkington Toughened Safety Glass. Pilkington T glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. Because of its increased strength, Pilkington T glass allows architects and builders far greater scope in their use of glass in buildings. It meets world-wide safety standards for glass subjected to accidental human impact at the highest level of severity. Wherever the benefits of ordinary glass need to be combined with extra strength, safety or heat resistance, Pilkington T glass can offer a complete and proven solution.
Pilkington T glass Plus is the heat soaked form of Pilkington T glass for those applications where a reduction in the of spontaneous fracture is advantageous, such as structural applications, barriers and roof glazing. In this case Pilkington T Plus should be specified along with the other product benefits required.
Pilkington T glass is manufactured by subjecting final size, edgeworked panes of glass to a heating and cooling treatment whereby high compressive stresses are set up at the surfaces with balancing tensile stresses in the centre. The high compressive surface stresses give the Pilkington T glass its increased strength.

Thermal Tempering is when glass is re-heated to just below its melting point, then suddenly cooled by directing multiple jets of cold air at a controlled pressure onto its surface.
By this means, the outer surface of the glass is subjected to compression and its interior to traction. The intensity of these two forces depends on the temperature that was reached just before cooling starts, enabling the production of tempered or heat-strengthened glass.

Overview
Pilkington Optilam is the brand name for our laminated glass range an alternative solution for impact safety. The glass will break following impact but will remain in place thus preventing injury.
Pilkington Optilam is produced by combining two or more sheets of glass with one or more plastic interlayers. Two types of interlayer are used, which have differing properties. The most common is a polyvinylbutyral (PVB) interlayer, which is applied with heat and pressure in factory controlled conditions.
Laminated glass can also be produced by a cast-in-place (CIP) process, in which a resin is poured between two panes of glass held apart by a spacer at the edges. The resin is subsequently cured and the product is known as Pilkington Laminated Glass.
The performance of Pilkington Optilam and Pilkington Laminated Glass can be varied by changing the number and thickness of each of the panes of glass, and the PVB or CIP interlayers. This provides the specifier with a wide choice of products depending on application, whether it be for safety or security, noise control, solar control, UV screening, blast resistance or privacy and decoration. See also Pilkington Optilam I and Pilkington Optilam Phon.

|
Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more simple lights of glass to PVB (polyvinyl butyral) sheets, a plastic substance with excellent adhesion, elasticity, transparency and resistance.
It is also possible to temper glass before laminating (Stralami Temper).

A new technology has been developed to increase the performance of traditional double-glazing, where the traditional aluminium spacer is replaced for a thermo-plastic material (TPS).
This unique system allows the use of a high molecular weight gas filling, together with a structural silicone sealant.
The TPS formulation is based on polyisobutylene, desiccants and ultra-violet inhibitors.
|
|
Ambience double-glazing consists of two or more lights of glass separated by chambers filled with air or other dehydrated gas.
An aluminium spacer containing a desiccant is used to separate the lights.
The unit stays dry thanks to a double layer of moisture-proof sealing.
The second sealant keeps the two lights firmly in place and ensures the integrity of the system.
