If you’re looking for a powerful petrol chainsaw that’s nevertheless lightweight and easy-handling, the Alpina ACS 542 ticks all the boxes!
Supplying the premium-brand Oregon cutting-gear with an impressive 1.9kW (2.5hp) is a high-capacity 42.2cc two-stroke air-cooled engine with a manual fuel-pump that ensures easy, stress-free starting on the first or second pull.
Thanks to advanced combustion technology, the engine offers a 60% reduction in unburned hydrocarbons and a 20% improvement in fuel economy in comparison to conventional units with a comparable displacement.
The safety optimising chain-break on the ACS 542 is activated in one of two ways – either manually, by pushing on the handguard; or automatically, by the inertia generated by kick-back.
An automatic oil-pump – adjustable to suit timber density – ensures a smooth cut and lessens wear on the bar and chain; while an engine on/off switch facilitates immediate restart following shutdown.
The ACS 542 offers numerous comfort & convenience features, from no-tools air-filter access, straightforward side chain-tensioning and easy-fill oil- and fuel-tanks, through to ergonomically shaped grips and effective spring-type vibration damping.
Capable of executing cuts in more substantial logs and timbers, this model comes with a larger 40cm guide-bar.
