Description

MV piles are made from steel H sections that are held in place with grout. A steel container is attached to the base of this section. Injection lines are then led along the steel section into the container. Grout is injected through the lines as the section is being driven into the ground, creating a grout curtain along the entire length of the section. Use of MV piles MV piles are often used for horizontal or vertical anchoring. In horizontal anchoring applications, the piles are driven into the ground at about a 45-degree angle, serving as compression or traction elements for quay walls or excavation pits. This prevents the top of the sheet piling from being forced inwards by the soil pressure. As vertical anchoring they are used in hard soils, if driving with vibro combi-piles is too time-consuming. MV piles were the best option for the foundations of the Terwenakker underground car park in Rotterdam, constructed under and next to a harbour in the city centre. Standard grout anchors would not have been able to absorb the full forces.
