Description

One of the greatest challenges in stair design is to securely seat glass balustrades into concrete bases – and this is what faced Benthem Crouwel Architekten faced when mounting curved glass balustrades on the concrete circular staircase that forms the multi-storey ‘spine’ of the new Port City building in Rotterdam. In close collaboration with the architect, EeStairs developed an absolutely secure way to mount the radiused glass balustrade sections in a curved metal profile connected to the concrete, so that the geometry of the glass and the rail were precisely matched. We were looking for a partner who could create transparent balustrades of curved glass, which proved to be a difficult task for many companies. One of our glass suppliers mentioned EeStairs, and together, we provided a beautiful solution that fits perfectly with the overall appearance of the building. Peter Kropp, Benthem Crouwel Architects
