Description

This is one of the more unusual staircases to have been produced by Elite Metalcraft. It was designed by Christina Seilern of Studio Seilern Architects. The staircase is cantilevered using a large box section stringer concealed in the stud partition. It is fabricated using 12mm thick hot rolled mild steel plate as treads with mild steel balustrade. The tread plates are welded together, ground smooth and then heat treated to give a blue brown colour to match the existing mill finish of the steel plate. The completed structure was then coated with a wax polish and a leather carpet glued centrally on the stairs. The 19mm thick toughened and heatsoaked shard of glass protruding from the side of the basement stairs looks fantastic and compliments the extreme cutting edge design of the cantilevered staircase.
