General The SHADOW LIGHTS system, made by Hess, lets you design spaces that radiate a comfortable and inviting atmosphere and encourage people to linger. The lighting system transforms urban space into a stage for life with shadow and light, providing harmonious basic illumination and dramatic shadow-and-light effects. The system uses light sources that are virtually hidden and minimize stray light, complying with the 'Dark Sky' concept.

Design and purpose The system is understated by day and creates impressive night effects. It supports atmospheric outdoor design while limiting light emission and glare. Accessories such as BaseShield and SkyShield are available to reduce glare (note: SkyShield cannot be combined with the 55° optics for technical reasons).

System stages

• STAGE 1: Fixed preconfigured stele in four heights. Control per insert, optionally without dimming or with dimming via DALI, StepDIM or AstroDIM. Configurations by application:
  • Lighting paths: heights 5000 / 6000 / 7000 / 8000 mm — with two inserts
  • Streets: heights 6000 / 7000 / 8000 mm — with three inserts
  • Boulevards: heights 7000 / 8000 mm — with four inserts
  • Squares: height 8000 mm — with five inserts
• STAGE 2: Freely configurable stele with three available inserts: PREMIUM SPOT, PREMIUM WASH and PREMIUM WIDE. Inserts are mounted in modules that can be rotated 360°. Spotlights are individually adjustable vertically +40° / -45° and horizontally +30° / -30°. Control per insert. Additional inserts for CCTV, speakers and GOBO are available in the base element. Heights available from 4200 mm to 8200 mm.
• STAGE 3: Freely configurable stele similar to Stage 2 with inserts PREMIUM SPOT, PREMIUM WASH and PREMIUM WIDE. Inserts mounted in 360°-rotatable modules. Spotlights freely adjustable vertically +40° / -45° and horizontally +30° / -30°. Control per spotlight via DMX / DALI possible; future options include Tunable White or RGBW. Inserts for CCTV, speakers and GOBO also available. Heights from 4200 mm to 8200 mm.
