For stains and stubborn dirt, the simplest household remedy will also help: warm water (distilled water is best) and fat-soluble washing-up liquid are often enough to remove stains. Dab the stain with a sponge or microfibre cloth and then brush from the outside inwards. This will prevent the stain from spreading even more. Do not scrub!
