It took a long time to solve the mathematical formula that allows tubular aluminium to become a silk ribbon and bend to form a bold sinuous curve. With thirty years of experience in metalworking, we overcame this challenge and are presenting IDA, the new outdoor chair designed by Anderssen & Voll, at the Salone del Mobile. Practical and elegant, IDA comes in reduced dimensions without forgoing comfort. Its distinctive feature is the line of the backrest, which appears to have been casually created, without focusing too much on modernist rigour. “It was a real challenge to create the IDA design,” explains Romano Marcato, founder and owner of Lapalma with his brother Dario. “Tubular aluminium has a different radius when calendering takes place in a gap, and to bend it following the line of the backrest we had to go beyond theory, and we are very proud of the result.” Almost a reinterpretation of the classic coffee bar chair, IDA surprises with its original combination of materials: a metal frame and a transparent 3D mesh that naturally embraces the user, ensuring the utmost comfort. The chair, available in Iroko wood and highly resistant to all weather conditions, is ideal for outdoor use.
