ilLUsion is an art and design work by Fabio Fornasier. ilLUsion can be admired, listened to, and it ilLUminates Yes, that is exactly how ilLUsion is a wonderful illuminating and good sounding work. According to the available literature and conventional knowledge, a raw material such as glass is not among the materials suitable for building loudspeakers. So everything had to be learned, such as the suitable and tolerated vibration, resonance, frequencies and sound pressure. The road towards this first creation was extremely
demanding and lasted a year. It could not revolutionise the design of the chandelier of course, but loudspeakers able to give as linear as possible a response on all audible frequencies needed to be integrated in it. Cones made of Kevlar, of cardboard and of fibreglass were tried out. Perhaps by chance or otherwise the latter ones in fibreglass were those chosen. Numerous crossover filters were tested and modified in order to find the right size of crossover of working frequencies between the midwoofer and tweeter loudspeakers, and through alterations to the thickness
and shape of the glass it was possible to obtain a stable system free of perceivable resonance. Fabio Fornasier’s creativity allows us to admire a unique work, never seen before, which is captivating from the first approach and can involve the listener-observer in an escalation of solely positive and intensely enjoyable sensations and emotions. IlLUsion was born from Fabio Fornasier’s creativity, as a synergistic expression which blends beauty, purity of sound, design and art.
