Caned Louis XV chair from the Lyons region, circa 1755-1760.
The strong moulding and carving of this fully-caned chair are typical of the much sought-after production of Louis XV Lyonnais chairs, whose main exponent was master joiner Pierre Nogaret. Peonies, florid curves following the rhythm of the curves and counter-curves, fine, generously carved petals, dos d’ane curves at the rear, internal rounding where the leg meets the rail, almost an arc of a circle, are all Lyonnais traits.
