Description

Nidaplast 8 is the standard product in the range, a polypropylene honeycomb core engineered for use as a structural core in sandwich panels. It is intended for manual lamination processes such as direct lamination (hand lay-up) and simultaneous spray-up.

Construction and materials
  • Polypropylene honeycomb core with 8 mm cell size.
  • Polyester non‑woven thermo-welded to the honeycomb to provide an optimized surface for impregnation with thermosetting resins (polyester, epoxy, phenolic).
  • Plastic film placed under the non‑woven seals the cells and limits resin penetration and consumption during lamination.
  • The honeycomb structure is approximately 95% void, ensuring high mechanical performance with minimal material.
  • Material: 100% recyclable polypropylene.

Main benefits
  • Very lightweight core offering high stiffness-to-weight performance.
  • Surface optimized for resin impregnation, reducing production defects and improving adhesion.
  • Cell-sealing film reduces resin consumption during hand lay-up and spray-up.
  • Certifications: DNV Marine Type Approval and Germanischer Lloyd.
  • Manufactured in France.

Typical applications
  • Structural core for sandwich panels in marine, transport, construction, pools, wind energy and other composite applications.
  • Direct lamination (hand lay-up) and simultaneous spray-up (chopped fibres + thermosetting resin) for large, lightweight parts produced at room temperature without pressure.
  • Compatible with impregnation by thermosetting resins; infusion and RTM possible if resin compatibility is confirmed.

Processing recommendations
  • Manual processes are carried out at ambient temperature and without pressure.
  • Verify compatibility between the selected resin system and Nidaplast 8 before production.
  • Use of the plastic film under the non‑woven limits resin flow into cells and reduces resin consumption.
