Radial cutting may show fine core splits which are not considered as defects. Possible presence of tannins. Unlike traditional sessile oak, thermal treatment heats the wood to 210 degrees Celsius. This darkens and improves the uniformity of wood colour to obtain dark brown and black colouring. Thermal treating provides the wood with much greater stability.
