OverviewPilkington Suncool™ is a range of off-line coated solar control and low-emissivity glass products designed for use in Insulating Glass Units (IGUs). The coatings reduce solar heat gain while maintaining high visible light transmission, enabling extensive glazed façades with controlled thermal performance.
Key benefits- High solar control with excellent thermal insulation (centre pane Ue-value down to 1.0 W/m²K in a double glazed unit with 90% argon fill).
- High selectivity (light-to-heat ratio) with g-values approximately 0.42 down to 0.17 depending on the variant.
- External light reflection from about 10% to 42%, enabling diverse aesthetic effects.
- Visible light transmission ranging approximately 70% to 28% for balanced daylighting and solar control.
- Available in a wide range of colours and appearances, including low-iron Optiwhite™ substrates for enhanced clarity.
- Suitable for combination with other Pilkington products to add functions such as self-cleaning, acoustic performance, safety or security.
- Designed for installation solely within IGUs; argon or krypton gas fills can be used to further improve thermal performance.
Products in the range- Pilkington Suncool™ — high-performance solar control glass.
- Pilkington Suncool™ Q — neutral, colour-stable solar control glass with low reflection and high selectivity.
- Pilkington Suncool™ OW — Suncool coating applied to low-iron Pilkington Optiwhite™ substrate for improved aesthetics and higher light transmittance.
- Pilkington Suncool™ Pro T — toughenable solar control glass.
Product combinations- Must be glazed in an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU) to achieve specified thermal and solar performance.
- Can be combined in IGUs with other Pilkington products to provide impact safety, security, fire resistance or enhanced acoustic insulation (e.g., Pilkington Optiphon™).
- Pilkington Activ Suncool™: dual-coated single glass with Activ™ self-cleaning on the outer surface and Suncool™ solar control on the inner surface (glazed as outer pane in an IGU).
- Suncool™ OW variants use low-iron Optiwhite™ substrates for clearer appearance and improved light/solar transmittance.
ApplicationsThe range is optimised for large glazed areas where control of solar gain and maintenance of natural light are required: commercial façades, office buildings, atria and curtain walls. It reduces cooling demand in warm climates while balancing daylight in temperate conditions, supporting lower operational energy use and compliance with green building standards when applied appropriately.
