Description

Dynamic Compaction (DC) is a cost-effective soil improvement technique that achieves deep ground densification using high energy waves created by the repeated impacts of heavy weights (pounders). The pounders used for dynamic compaction generally ranges from 10 to 35 Tons and drop heights range from 12 to 25m. The energy is generally applied in different phases and passes following a preset grid (usually a square grid). Dynamic Compaction technique aimed at dramatically increasing the geotechnical properties of loose soil and fill to great depths. There is almost no limitation in the size of the particles as this method was successfully used on rocks, coral layers, sand and non saturated silt and clay soils. Dynamic Compaction is effective for large wide type of soils and particularly well-adapted for: - Saturated/unsaturated loose Sands/gravels even with presence of pockets of Silt/clay, - non-organic heterogeneous fill, - dredged materials even with the presence of large sized boulders, A large number of structures throughout the world have foundations laid on ground improved by Dynamic Compaction technique. TREVI has applied this technique to several sites for very different types of structures and conditions (port platforms, embankments, heavy storages, buildings, reclamation areas…).
