Sirecom Tappeti

Since 1976, Sirecom has specialised in the production of entirely customised and made-to-measure carpets. A long journey began more than 45 years ago, along the coasts of India and the highlands of Nepal, in search of the finest fabrics and noblest techniques. Treasures were discovered and finally brought back home to be re-interpreted from within the cradles of modern design.

The affirmation of the carpet as an art form and expression of contemporary design can now be considered an international trend, but in the 1970s, when our journey began, it was perceived differently: carpets were above all culture. In our eyes, carpets implied a presence, an affirmation from distant lands where time flows differently and towards which we headed, searching through the Terai in Nepal and Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in India. The world may have been different in those days, but everything we encountered along the way resonated with millenary melodies, every gesture was a legacy of the culture it inhabited, as was the sublime refinement of both techniques and materials. We visited villages and explored the wilderness in search of textiles, but what we inherited was of much greater value. Those initial journeys became an opportunity to experience the quality of handwork and the search for the perfect weave. Along the way, design has changed many times over the years and will continue to do so, nevertheless Sirecom has always investigated how to respond with its characteristic voice and shapes by expressing its ideas and feelings in weaves.
