A turnstile is a rotating barrier used to control access to commercial and public facilities and buildings. It may rotate vertically or horizontally, and can be placed high or low. Some simply limit the flow of people. Others restrict entry to paying customers via a coin-operated or non-contact card system, or a ticket machine. It also may be manually operated by a controller.
